Hey guys 15 ultra classic. Thinking about replacing hu with the sony x7000 unit. Pros and cons. Biggest issue ive read about is screen not bright enough or hard to read with glare. Second part since id have fairing off might as well replace speakers. Whats a good drop in pair for fronts and backs. Prefer no speaker spacers in back. Thanks

You will get much better quality sound from Sony. Glare messes with everything, not just Sony.
if you want to upgrade speakers only with no amp, go with something cheap like Skar, Polk, American Bass etc.(no spacers needed)
If you want to make your upgrade loud and clear, add an amp and set of better quality speakers
What does the current HU do or not do that is inspiring a Sony 7000? The immediate difference is that your stock HU isn't going to die in the rain and despite claims of the 7000 being waterproof, the general consensus is that its water resistant at best. You mentioned the second issue- visibility. There's the matter of retaining hand controls. You can get close to programming the controls to do what a stock HU does but you'll not have the full functionality that you are currently used to. All those things aside, your biggest disappointment will be your attempt to run new speakers off the internal amp of your HU. There isn't another way to say it, there's just not enough power there and you'll be insanely disappointed with the results. Almost as disappointed as you'll be if you put the Sony in and DONT change the speakers.
You'll need to dial in your objectives a bit here in order to find the best solution. Without an amp, you're wasting your time on sound quality even with new speakers. If you're swapping HUs thinking you're bike will sound better, it won't. Your stock HU and speakers are 2 ohm. Those speakers won't play nice with a Sony that runs at 4 ohm.
If you want better sound, grab an amp and some speakers and let it rip. If you just want a different HU, the sound will not improve.
All that said, I have a Sony 5000 and have nothing against aftermarket HUs.
The waterproof wasnt the sale for me. More power then stock hu plus android auto was the draw. I actually like the stock hu myself but by the time i get it flashed and a dec. Amp and speakers and line levelers plus install it gets spendy quick. So i figured the sony hu says more power. I am open to an amp and speakers i looked at the rockford setup too.

A line leveler or flash and amp for 2 speakers is much cheaper than a Sony 7000. And don’t look at Rockford
