Default Optimizing current set up

Hello all,

Current system:
-Sony xav-5000
-Arc audio Moto 602HD
-Diamond Audio horn tweeters in road glide speaker fairing grilles.
-JL audio mx280/4

I have the tweeters powered from the head unit (head unit is 55W total) (tweeters are 50W RMS, 100max)

The JL MX280/4 is bridged 140W x2 at 4ohm (per JL amp instructions) for the Arc audio 6.5s in the fairing. (6.5s are 125W RMS and 250 peak).

Some current gripes/possible problems:
-I really feel that the sound is a little inconsistent probably in part to my lack of tuning skills.
-Not often (but sometimes) the sound will cut out for a period of less than 5 seconds, then continue playing normal. This is a real sporadic issue. Always noticed with loud volume, hot day, after a period of time playing music (overheating?)

The questions that I have are, is my current set up pretty much good to go as is? Would I be better off with a new amp to handle all the speakers and not power the tweeters off the head unit? Would I be better off just adding an amp for the tweeters only? Suggestions?

And lastly, I’ve been thinking about adding a dsr-1. I’m hesitant due to the fact I hate spending more on all this for minimal noticeable end result.

I appreciate any and all help. The main goal is to optimize what I have, in general I’m happy with what I have, I just have that feeling of I’m not getting everything out of what I have.

Thanks.

It sounds like you are clipping on the amp and causing it to go into protect mode. Try backing the gains down a tad as it sounds like you right at the edge and on certain songs/tones it clips. If your tweeters sound good just off the head unit then I would leave them there and not but a new amp. The SQ from that jl amp is about as good as it gets. I also don’t think you need a dsp for that setup unless you have more in play than the fairing. Yea a dsp tuned right will sound better but not needed in this case.

I'm gonna be that guy!

Why Arc 602HD's and horns? Did the 602's not play highs well enough in that setup?
