any one install the alpine halo 409 ilx ,it has the rs232 input ,is this needed for 2018 cvo sg

I doubt it as it looks like the screen would be in the way of the gauges in a batwing. This appears to be a single DIN chassis with the screen out front and up higher (the OEM and other head units like the Sony XAV-AX7000 mounted in the batwing or shark nose are single DIN chassis with double DIN screens with the chassis being above the lower half of the screen). Not to say you couldn't do it but you not only need to contend with the screen likely blocking your gauges but also would need to trim out the where the screen would normally fit. Probably not worth the effort IMO.

Also, what RS-232 input? I didn't see one and what would it be used it for?

Seems like I saw a thread on here where someone mounted the Sony 8000 on a bike. Cant remember if SG or RG though. Either way, I doubt it would be practical for a rider. Mostly for a comp bike I would think.
