Default should I update?

So I've had the Biketronics setup on my 07 Ultra for about 6-7 years now.
BT4180 amp
BT7P1 speakers in fairing and Tour pack
Sony MEX610 Radio

Was wondering what might be a good update to todays standards?
Would I gain much?
Thinking about also installing 6.5" speakers in lowers.
Stinger 700.4?
Sound Digital?

Speakers? (def 6.5 or more)
Like I asked......would I gain much?
Just change amp?

Thanks
Murph

There have been MANY improvements in amps and speakers since the BT stuff was popular.

You couldn't go wrong with any update you did,

Even the stinger mmats combo would be a huge improvement.

I mean, that amp is still rated pretty good wattage wise at around 180 per channel, and would be plenty to power 4 mmats 601 speakers. The GZ speakers would also be a good option, but need at least 200 watts each.

Decide on adding lowers or not before hand and plan accordingly. You can buy and install an amp that would handle all four locations, then when you're ready to add lowers, you have the available power there.

Why? Are you unhappy with the sound or volume or maybe just have that urge to spend some money on the ride? If the answer is no then IMO there is really nothing to be gained.

Always looking for bigger and better.
I dont know what I'm missing.
Is the system I have ok?
Yea I guess.
Some that ride with me like to listen to it while we ride, so it's loud enough, seems clear enough.
It gets some break up in the higher volumes though.

But seeing the system is like 6-7 years old, just wondering if I upgrade would I be happier with it?
And the only way to know is dig in and do it, and decide after if it was worth it.

Ok then, looking to spend some dough. Well, you're in the right place. No end to how deep the rabbit hole goes here...it just depends on your wallet. Will you be happy with the spend? Well, as you say the only way to know is to dig into it and see if it was worth it at the end.

So far the only possible bad thing I hear is that you have some "break up" at louder volumes. I'm a bit surprised at that as you're only running 2 pairs of the 7.1s off a 4180 which should be no issue at all. I'd start by calling BT and see what they have to say about that.

Teed had a good idea in thinking about lowers. I think it makes a big difference going to 6 speakers from the 4 you have now. You could think about moving the 7.1s from the TP to the lowers if possible. Run them in parallel with the upper fairing speakers which gives you a 2 ohm load on the front channels. You could then look to drop a pair of 2 ohm speakers into the TP (say Cicada CX65.2s) for the rears. That 4180 is stable at 2 ohms and you should be able to get a fair bit more volume, as well as a fuller front stage from the lowers with a configuration like that. This config won't break the bank and you reuse 100% of what you currently have.

Thanks
I'm gonna call BT.

Like I said, I dont know what I dont know.

I doubt the 7.1's will fit in the lowers, someone on here did it but with the non harley aftermarket lowers.
And the pods in the back are BT's, not the stock pods. They dont make them anymore and to put anything else in there now would require adapters from 7.1 to 6.5. Don't even know if anyone makes those.
Would like to maybe add some 6.5's to the lowers though.
Maybe some 4 ohm speakers in parallel to the fairing speakers?
Those kits are readily available.
And it would add to the sound quite a bit I would imagine, although getting any bass out of that is asking too much I suppose.

EDIT...or how about this......
Front and rear 7.1's parallel on the front channel and Cicada's in the lowers on the rear channel?

Personally I'd listen to some audio systems on others bikes, whether it's at a bike night or other gathering. Biketronics is a good company with great warranty and service, albeit a bit pricey. A lot of options are available today that have come a long way from 6 yrs ago. A lot of us here will change up setups fairly regularly, in the quest for the best we can afford or the shinier new trinket. My opinion, if you have waited 6 years to consider an upgrade, you've done well. You would be surprised at how much has changed.

Things have come along way and the BT amp has no way to be tuned. If it were me I would ditch that amp or add a DSP. GZ's in the fairing and Mmats in lowers and tour pak. Sd400.4 to power the GZ's and the BT amp for the Mmats would work. That set up will give some nice punch.
