Default Audio upgrade

So I’ve got a 2017 street glide special with all stock audio and a GT head unit. I’d like to upgrade to a sound stream reserve head unit, and I’m thinking about upgrading to 6.5 midrange speakers with horn tweeters. I’m open to adding 6x9’s in the lids, but would rather stay with one amp without a DSP. Thoughts on what would be the best solution? I don’t mind spending the money on a good setup. I listen to all kinds of music, from country to hip hop. I want clear audio at highway speeds with at least a little bump. I’m a rider, not a parking lot pimp, though I respect both. I just want to ride without worrying about getting caught in the weather and messing something up..

If you want to go mid range and horns you will need a DSP to make it sound good.

You will need a dsp with components as FJ stated. If you stay with coax speakers, you can tune them with the EQ settings on the HU.

What would be your recommendation on a high end coax? Have you heard the Infinity Kappa Perfect's?

It depends on the amp you are going to use, what music you like. A solid performer setup that is budget minded is mmats pa601 cx speakers and a stinger spx 700x4 amp. That combo really does sound good at speed on a bike. I personally would not use any SD amps without running a dsp. The setups I have heard without one are overpowering with highs and you need a dsp to tame them.

I agree with that. I have had the Mmats and stinger combo with a Kenwood deck and it sounded great. I currently have a set of GZ coax in the fairing and Mmats 6x9 in the lids pushed by an SD 1200.4. It is loud and mid bass is punchy. I have the stock GT radio with the RF flash The treble is as low as I can get it and I am installing a DSP over the winter it is on my work bench. It sounds good up to 3/4 volume and they the highs are to much on most songs. Once I get it tuned I know I will be happy.

Side note my buddy has the 4 speaker fairing and lids RF system and at 3/4 volume on my bike he can barley hear his sitting at a stop light. My set up was 500 cheaper than his.

I was thinking about getting the new hertz SP4.900 amp. I've heard good things about it and it packs a punch.

I have a Stinger 700/4 with the coax MMATS in the fairing, and PRV Neo's in the lowers. I have had this setup a few years and love it. The MMATS are a great bang for the buck
