Anyone work on amps?
I have a Sound Digital 1200.4 EVOX. On a ride back from the east coast I lost sound. I am assuming I need someone to look at the amp.
I have it out of the bike but have not had any luck with the people that I have reached out to about sending it in for diagnosis/repair. The new "normal" I guess.
Can anyone here recommend a shop?
Thanks

None, well almost none. Amp has power, light was on. Stock HD (2020) head unit powers on and puts out a small amount of noise that increases when the volume is turned up but in no way gets loud. I did not get a meter out and test anything.
I'm not sure of the numbers, but each channel should be close and the output will rise and fall depending on the volume.

In the old days to troubleshoot an amp like that we would just use an audio signal from a portable player of some kind and plug it into the input of the amp on a bench. I remember using portable cassette players with a 3.5mm to RCA adapter cable. I guess you could do the same today with an iPod or a phone that still has a headphone jack. That way you could tell if the amp actually plays music halfway decent before condemning it. I would start out with a low volume from the source until you see how it goes.
Something else you can check is the x-over switch. Work it back and forth a couple times. I had a SD amp quit working, and all it was dirty x-over switches. Odds are you won't get that lucky, but worth a try.
For us Canadians, I have tracked down a repair shop in Ontario that is familiar with working on Sound Digital amps, and one in Calgary that is willing to repair them. I've personally used the one in Calgary.
