I have a 2019 Ultra CVO that has had radio's replaced under warranty now 3 times. Most of the time it was overall functions that did not work as designed. Now after about 6 months of good working order and Android Auto working well plugged into the USB connection, it suddenly dropped Android Auto. My dealer called HD and it was their suggestion to change the cables from the radio to the the phone. I've done so and no Android Auto.....Dealer has given up. I'm at the point of just putting in an after market radio with all the same features. Anyone else run into this.

Also I'm considering replacing the current HD branded SENA 50 with the SENA 50S. Anyone do so? If so, did you see any functions with the bike that you lost?

 

If you are like me, you probably relied on AA and bit. So, if it is not working, then you may well miss it.

S, let me try to help. Just to be clear - you are talking andriod Auto and not Apple Carplay. Some folks use the function and think they are the same.

If actually AA, then I am hopeful that this is easier. So, let's start here. Go to the bike and plug a music flash drive into the USB port. Let's see if that plays, If it does, it sort of signals to me that that cable is working just fine.

Next, let's check your phone. Did you recently change phones or have an update. I use AA and there have been times when my phone updated that I lost AA. I was able to verify that it was not the bike by plugging my phone into my car's port to see if I could use AA; I could not.

When this happened, here is what I did. Because AA may change during an update, I simply deleted AA from my phone. Then I reinstalled it with the more current version. I do remember that one time when this happened, my phone would not install the new AA. This is because the phone was old and could not handle the update. It was time for a new phone - so we replaced them. As soon as we got new phones, things went right in.

A final thing to check before you buy new phones, especially if AA is working in your car. Do this. Turn the bike to ACC and let the Nav come up. Open your phone and go to google maps. Ask google to give you directions to a location, just pick a place like Houston, TX or whatever. Your phone should begin to find that route.

Once the route comes up, hit start like you are going to use the route on your phone. Once you see it, now plug the phone into the USB port. Watch your screen and see if it connects.

For starters, I would try a new or different usb to phone cord. The only time my AA doesn't automatically start, it's the connection at my phone. Those cable connections get weak with the vibration and extended use.

 

I had problems with AA dropping on my 23 Ultra when using cables. When I switched to the Motorola AA wireless puck it has been 100% reliable. I just leave my phone in the tour pak (sometimes plugged into the charger if it is a long trip) and everything works perfectly.

 

Similar problem to OP. My phone case wasn't letting the USB-C cord plug in fully enough. Then the cord would back out over time and I'd lose AA. Sometimes it would come and go. I watch it more closely now. Just did a 1700 mile trip, no problem.

Does the wireless connection change the quality of output, volume or sound quality? The reason I ask, when plugged in, my sound quality improves over running the GTS on bluetooth.

 

You know I've always heard SQ is better when plugged in, but I can't really tell the difference myself, I guess because I don't have a really high quality sound system. I only have music on my phone or USB drive that I rip from my own CDs, and I only use 192 kbps to save space, so that may be why I can't tell much difference. I tried comparing higher bit rates but my old ears still couldn't notice a difference. I guess if someone had stock exhaust and a tall windshield it might be easier to notice.

Now that I'm thinking about it I might notice a little better sound when playing from my USB drive instead of my phone, but if I do it's such a small difference that I didn't mind. I guess for me the rock solid AA connection would be worth a slight trade off.

 

I may have to try the wireless dongle. They are not badly priced. Lord knows I've pissed away plenty in search of audio sound.

It would be nice to not be tethered to the bike during audio competitions.
