Ok here it goes, I bought my 09 street glide 2 weeks ago and at first I was just excited to have a stereo on my bikes.. First bike with stereo if you couldn't tell... I ride it nearly everyday and I'm really not like the speakers or HU at that.
I have decided to get my inner fairing painted ASAP so probably after Christmas. Here's the options I can come with (yes I have searched and studied these forum)
1 just get hogtunes (>$80) stock replacements and throw them in there for now
2 replace the HU(Sony$150/240) also order the biketronics wiring kit($200). And just ordering nice set of 6.5 and run those off the deck for now.
3 This is my long run full plan. New HU (Sony) biketronics wiring kit, biketronics 7.1 speakers, Sound stream pn4.520d 4 ch Amp and I will be adding lower fairings with speakers hopefully reuse the ones I throw in on step two?
I'm trying to get some feedback here. I would like to just skip 3 right now but my wife is a lol on edge of my spending so far.. The bike ", then a windshield and seat all within a week.. So hopefully step 2 will work? Thanks guys
Get the Soundstream amp and the 6.5's now and hook them up to your stock radio. Both of them will be reused so you are not spending money on something you won't use on your final system, except for the adaptor rings. The Biketronics 6.5's were on sale last week when I ordered my stuff. Not much more than what the MM651's and adaptor rings would cost together.
Save the money and do it ONCE and right the first time. Sony, soundstream, 7.1's is a rocking set up and not terribly expensive. Do the lowers when you can and its really easy once you have everything else in place. You can sink a TON of money doing these projects piece by piece or in sections or making the wrong speaker choice. My suggestion to you is what I just said it will make your life a hell of a lot easier and you'll be happier in the end, trust me.

I couldn't agree more. Third times the charm in my case. I'll never say never, but with the exception of adding a couple more 6x9's facing towards the rear wheel in my saddlebags and the amp to push them, I'm done. Wish I would have ordered the Biketronics stuff from the start and been done with it.
Thanks for everyone's input. I agree I think I will get the HU, soundstream and biketronics 7.1 now and just do it right and stay on the look out for lowers.
Put vented lowers and cvo pods on my '09. I have the non-vented lowers and fairing factory speaker pods I took off if ya are interested. They need paint.
