As the title says another audio question? Start with what I have currently Stock Harmon Kardon stereo Hogtunes fairing Speakers (2 ohms)! I am also adding 6x9's in my lids. Should I sell my current set up and start over (new head unit, fairing speakers, amp, 6x9's), or is there an amp compatible to run what I have in mind now?
A lot of amps that you would want for the lids will overpower the Hogtunes fairing speakers. Unless you don't want to amp the fairing speakers and only the lids, it might be better to change out the fairing speakers. What type of lids and speakers are you looking at getting? What us your budget? Is FM radio reception important to you?
Changing the head unit is up to you. A lot of people like the stock unit, but it distorts early. An aftermarket unit offers a lot of features and better sound, but can be hard to read during the day and are not as durable on a motorcycle as the HK.
cycle sound lids from eastern performance is what im thinking. The main reason for changing my head unit would be to get Bluetooth to link to my iphone wirelessly. Do you think that an aftermarket head unit would be enough to power my hogtunes then get a 2 channel amp for my lids? Or what about a Rockford fosgate px400 4 channel amp rated for 100 watts per channel at 2 ohm?
An aftermarket radio might not be good for your current Hogtunes speakers. Most head units are 4 ohms. Your Hogtunes are 2 ohm. Check that out if you don't plan on using an amp for the fairing speakers. You might end up switching those out too.
Depending on where you mount the amp, be aware of it's physical size. I don't think the p400x4 will fit in your fairing.
Cycle sounds lids are known to have bad sealing to the saddlebag bottoms. If you don't ride in a lot of rain that might not be a problem. A lot of guys are now using the Hogtunes lids with their 6x9's of choice.
Budget means a lot here too with your decision making. Establish what you are willing to spend before you get too deep. It's easy to blow a couple thousand on a bagger stereo. Kinda hard to recommend stuff before we know how far you are willing to go.
Either way I go I would like to spend 4-500 on speakers/amp. if I sell my stock head unit and speakers that should get me into a new head unit and bike tronics kit kinda thinking it would be even swap leaving me with the same amount of money to spend on speakers/amp?
After you told me people were having problems with them I decided not to go that route. I think im going to do the adapter plates to 6.5 infinity kappa quality speakers with an amp that best matches. If I choose to add speakers later I could always upgrade to a 4 channel amp.
