I have a JVC hu and 4 51/4" 300w speakers in fairing. Going to add a Alpine power pack 180w amp in my fairing. I am adding that amp because of lack of space and that one will fit the best. If I was to change the speakers out I think I could fit 6.5 on the out sides and 6" on the inside. What would be the best speakers for this set up. My plan is to add 6x9s and a amp to the bags in the future but not at this time.
My thought is to swap out one set of the speakers first to see what the difference is but not sure what to go with.
uplandpinter I have 4 5.5 polk dxi speakers and the alpine ktp in my reckless fairing. its plenty loud even going down the highway at 80 plus. word of advice regarding the power pack.i had the original one hooked up to a alpine head unit. it was plug and play using the radios power wire. not sure what your directions say but dont use the radios power wire run the power and ground back to the battery. when i wired it per directions the amp would shut off when the volumn was turned up.

Thanks for the heads up. I plan to hook everything with it's own plugs.
It is a Wide Open custom plastics. They are put together so they can not be taken apart/opened up.
Might want to try that amp on your existing speakers before you give up on them. It's a 4 channel amp and although not very powerful it's a hell of a lot more clean power than that HU is putting out. The higher you crank that HU volume the more distortion so the amp keeps the volume down by adjusting gains on the amp. If all else fails then you can proceed with changing speakers since everything will already be wired up

Good point. I guess at this point I am not trying for the biggest/baddest stereo trophy. I just want a little cleaner and a bit more power so It doesn't sound like I just have the treble turned up.
