Failed Amp --need diagnostic help
Per directions I obtained here on the Audio Systems forum, I used the existing(stock) front fairing speaker wires as "front" inputs into the SS amp. I spiced the new wires onto the wires that go to the rear pod speakers and ran those new wires into the "rear" inputs into the SS amp.
I then ran the new cross-over wires from the new front fairing Polk speakers to the right and left "front" outputs on the amp.
I installed new wires from each of the lower fairing speakers into the front fairing, hooked those up to the cross over boxes for those speakes and connected the cross-over wires to the "rear" outputs of the SS amp.
Things worked ok for about a month then the lower fairing speakers quit working. Checked voltage on those speakers and got wierd readings... .48VDC on the left lower and -.15VDC on the lower right and approx .30VDC on both the right and left front fairing speakers.
Removed the front fairing speaker wires from the front amp outputs and hooked up the lower speaker wires to those outputs instead of the rear outputs and the speakers worked fine.
So, I suspect that means that the rear outputs of the SS amp quit working/burned up/something. I have purchased a replacement amp...but would like to know if someone could tell me if something in the way that I wired everything caused the amp to fail vs. just a fluke bad amp.
Thanks in advance for any and all help. Don't want to cook the new amp if I can avoid it!
