Ok back story.. I have a new project I just got a bike that is some what of a new bike. It is a custom that was started in 2002 and has been in a garage and never seen the street. It has 3 tenths of a mike on the Speedo and I put it on rolling it out of the garage and back into mine. Long sad story on how I got it. It has never been titled. I am not an evo guy, I have one other that is also nice but have never had to do anything to it.
this bike has an 2001 American quantum frame, 5 speed trans, the only thing I know about the engine is that it is a 95 ci from the paper work .no mso on the motor.. it has a open belt 3 inch primary this is my problem.
I put oil in it about 3 weeks ago, in all 2 holes, set the timing and get her running with a smile.. i haven’t got back to it until yesterday and found a puddle of oil under the front pulley . So I got a front seal out of one of the kits I have and took it apart and the oil is leaking around the gear teeth and not the seal, I pulled the seal so I could take a closer look and never seen a seal set up like this. How does this stop the oil from coming out?
Was wondering how you made out. Harley has been using this method to seal the crank since the introduction on the cone Shovel. Anyways the spacer has a machined face that seals against the crank inner bearing race which is pressed on the crank shaft. If the spacer and compensator are torqued properly it shouldn't leak between the shaft and spacer. I would replace the spacer and take a good look at the face of the bearing race where the spacer mates up to.
