Default 2015 Dyna FXDB

After growing up riding dirt bikes i've always wanted a Harley, being in school the better part of the last 7 years I wasn't able to pick one up until this summer. After numerous trips to the dealer and tons of researching, talking to friends and family with harleys I decided a dyna was right for me. I was torn between the street bob and the fat bod, in the end I went with the street bob as I just loved that classic look it has.

I was able to do the HD-1 program, ordered the bike in july, picked it up towards the end of august. I ordered the bike with forward controls and drag bars.

So far the mods are:
V&H big shots
V&H fuelpak
SE heavy breather (the stage 1 ac was super annoying hitting my knee so switched it out to the heavy breather which is slightly better)
pulled the reflectors off and did the vertical license plate mount mod i read on here (thanks!)

So far i got 1000 miles on her and i love the bike. Some things I thought about after putting some time on her was I kind of feel a bit strange on forward controls, maybe I'm used to the control of mids on a dirt bike, but they are comfortable. I have over a 34" inseam so just thought id be way to crammed with mids, jury still out on if ill keep the forwards or do the expensive switch back to mids. Also regret getting the fuelpak instead of a tuner as I already desire more power and plan on doing at least a cam next year so I'll be needing something different. The big shots sound bad a$$ but i think i should have went with a 2 into 1 D&D perhaps.

So some likely future mods are a set of cams (possibly mild headwork), 2 into 1 exhaust, better tuner, suspension upgrade (maybe JRI rear torn on length), day maker headlight, possibly going back to mids (not sure), maybe slightly longer handlebar risers, brake upgrade of some sort. Of course this will all be over a extended coarse of time and will be a continued work in progress.

Heres a couple shots, I even got my dad to take a cruise on the bike, he used to have an old indian, think i've inspired him to get back in the saddle and he's likely gonna pick up a soft tail of some sort. She's due for her first service, which I'll let the dealer do, I bought a service manual and all the rest of the service will be done by me.

One of the reasons I picked the FXDB was mids came stock. I rode dirt bikes as a kid too and came to Harley from sport bikes. I tried highway pegs to see what it felt like, and ended up ditching them. It just doesn't feel right to me.

...and the stock suspension? Shockingly awful compared to everything else produced since the mid 1980s. Fortunately, there are lots of great aftermarket choices out there. Once you do the rear, you'll naturally want to upgrade the front. The new Progressive monotubes are a good bang for the buck, but not as tunable as an emulater and spring option. If I could afford it, I'd go with the Ohlins cartridges sold by Motorcycle Metal.
