Head work: 96 vs 103 heads
I'm thinking I want to do some head work on my 96" this winter. I was talking to one of my friends who is a mechanic and he said that I should look for a set of 103 heads because they have better springs, etc. I know the 103 heads will bolt right up but my question is what is the real difference between the 103 and the 96 heads. Am I wasting money on buying 103's when I'm just going to have them ported anyways?
For the record I will probably go to 103 or 107 in the future but I want to see how she pulls with head work before I go big bore. I have a Andrews 48 cam, 30t trans pulley and 68t rear pulley as well. Thanks in advance.

Here is what I would do before you buy, call a couple of respected head porters and talk to them. WFO Larry, Baisley, etc. They are the ones that get to work with heads day in and day out. Do let us know what you find out!
My bet like HD Bobber, you will save money and sacrifice nothing by using what you have.

If you are not doing headwork then yes those will flow better, but if I were you I'd add that money into the port job and kick up to the next porting stage and really get the sucker breath'n!
