Installing my T-bars, and took the opportunity to install Avon heated grips, since I was pulling wires anyway. So the throttle side went on fine, but the clutch side slips on very loosely, meeting friction resistance with only about a half inch of bar left before hitting the switch housing. No way will that not twist or slide off. I know I need to use glue, but it seems that I'd only be getting gription at the first inch of the inside of the grip, not the entire grip. I won't use them like this. It's a shame. I powered them up off the bike on the new bars and they worked nicely.
Anyone have any experience with Avon heated grips?
It's a 08 FXD, with Wild one chubbie 8" rise t-bars btw.
Don't the Avon grips have a lip to go inside the switch housing on the clutch side? I recall reading they're designed this way so you don't need glue. Clamp the housing down and they should stay put. What do the instructions say?
Well, that was a waste of time. After all that, tightening the controller/clutch clamp, it snapped and broke in half. Using a tiny 1/4" ratchet no less. In my blind angry frustration, I pulled the whole thing out and tossed it in the trash.
"Anger, fear, aggression, the dark side are they..."
No truer words! $200 down the drain when I could probably had ordered a replacement switch. Oh well. No ones fault but my own!
Wow that sucks my man, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on new bars, one of the guys at work rides and recommended heated grips. with HD playing the tune of $26o I was looking at the Avons on J&P, but having second thoughts now.

Look into heat demons.. I've had them on 2 bikes and I'd buy again
Yeah, that's what I should have done in the first place. Let's you use any grip you want... The Avon's though, were supposed to have been made in conjunction with heat demons, their elements I believe. If I try it again, it will be when I change bars. Which will probably be when I get a new bike!
But don't let my hamfisting job sway you away from them. I'm sure anyone else would make them work. I tend to break things...
