What do you want them to do? Wind blockage, or real hand protection from mirrors while splitting?
I'm a big fan of Valholl Counter Culture's hand guards. My bars are so narrow that I don't worry about clipping mirrors, so I just run their Dusters. Using them lets me wear my favorite light gloves through most of our "winter" in SOCAL. They are super easy to pop on and off, too. The down side with them, or the JD guards, is that if you clip a mirror, they can bend back and pin your lever (or fingers) against the grip.
Their Destroyers are freaking bomb-proof. WCTB Cage Crackers are pretty badass, too, but having installed a set of each on friends' bikes, I think the Destroyers are easier to install and the compression bolt assembly is more secure inside the bar ends (IMO). Both will protect your fingers while splitting without any worry about getting bent back into your hands.
It's really just wind blockage. No splitting for me...my 30" bars won't allow it..neither will Canadian cops
I have a set of JD's at home that will eventually go on my FXDF (when I do bars) problem is I want to keep the signals on the had controls and the Fat bob uses some odd type of mount to tuck the signals close to the bars instead of straight down. Anyone else dealt with this?
I run the JD Medium Coffins and agree with all the comments posted. I would use something else if lane splitting was legal here but they're great otherwise. Buy Large if you want more wind protection. I don't think there's any problem with turn signals but aren't sure since I relocated mine before buying the hand guards.

They really stick out past the handlebars hu? Have any pictures?
No, they don't stick out past bars but if your hand got caught between them and the bars it would suck. No matter to me since I can't lane split here. These are the Medium Coffin cuts.
