I read a prior thread but can't locate it again to ask a question. Sorry about doing it here. When I looked at the front motor mount behind the oil filter on my 03 SG it clearly had rubber in the center of the mount. I read a few posters stating the 03 had solid mounts. Would solid mounts have rubber in between the fasteners?
No ****, there is a thread that clearly by several posters stated that the 03 didn't have vibe reduction mounts. At a red light my eyeballs shake just a little but I have owned other Harley's that shook a lot more. Thank's for the replies.

'03 with 130K, have changed the front mount three times (they break from vibration, really). You asked about the one behind the filter it's rubber, my last change was to poly, more rigid don't notice any more vibration.
I was told by the mechanic at the shop that replaced my tires that there is a different (than stock) motor mount that flexes so it does not break. Has anyone installed one? Is it worth the additional expense (assuming it is more expensive, of course it is, right?) I am in need of a new front motor mount so wanting to know if I should spring for the stock or the newer, more flexible version.
Also, I am OK with wrenching but I do not havea bike lift or bike jack, just a regular floor jack for cars/trucks. Is this a job for a shadetree mechanic with a good set of tools (torque wrench, sockets, wrenches)?

What your mechanic is talking about is Polyurethane rather than rubber. No it's not "more flexible" it's actually stiffer. They won't break or decay like rubber does though... or the time it takes to do so is much much longer.

Thanks for the clarification Jesse. You are right, he mentioned it was different material. The mistake was mine, in that my memory is poor and my ADD is....oh, look...squirrel!!!!
