Default chrome primary covers

I've been thinking about changing out my polished cover for a chrome cover on my '99 FXD. I have seen these listed anywhere from $ 150 to $ 350 and they look identical. My question is does the quality reflect paying the extra $$$ or are they pretty much all the same. If so, any tips on where to buy a good one for a good price are appreciated.

I bought mine off ebay last year for 100 bucks. I thought it was a good deal, it was in excellent condition. What I did was get the HD number and matched that to what was offered. I try to buy only HD parts. Ebay is your best bet, or you can look in the HDforum "for sale" section to see if anyone has one. Another option is to get yours chromed, but that would put your scoot out of comission for a couple of weeks. Take your time looking - there are deals out there.

You could probably pick up a stock "take-off" cheep and have that chromed so your bike isn't out of commission while the part is at the chromer. I'm sure lots of us have the stock take-offs laying around.

Another vote for E-bay, $100.00 shipped to my door last year. There was a very small (1/8") scratch which is hidden by the mid peg mount. Otherwise, it was a genuine HD part in perfect condition. Keep looking, ask questions and the deals are out there, it might just take a little while to find the right one. Ask a lot of questions, when you get the one you need, consider chromed torx bolts or cap screws, a new gasket and you're on your way. the whole job takes less than an hour.
