I know there is a lot on here about forward controls ,seen good video but my question is I want forwards on my 07 low rider and don't want to spend the 350 that harley wants for a kit. Don't plan on removing primary cover so don't think I need gaskets , can I get jus the linkage and plug for cover or do I have to by kit ?
The plug for the primary cover is where a shift arm was. That is what goes through the primary and requires removal to eliminate. I too have an '07 FXDL and it seems like one could leave that original shift arm in place and secure it it some manner and bypass it. I dunno anything for sure.
I have a kit that I used on my '06 Bob. It is actually #49080-03A but it fits. It has the bracket and cover for the mid shift -shaft so no need to mess with removing it. This is the quick and easy way to deal with it.
My brother has it on his '06 Superglide also.
I have recently switched to the Footboard kit so I no longer need it. It has a couple nice estras like stirrup pegs and HD shift linkage cover. Needs cleaned up but in great shape.
Check out the Kuryakyn #9063/9064 forwards,, they supply a cap/beauty ring that covers the mid controls shaft (like Mascmans photo) and a clevis that bolts to the lever keeping it tucked out of sight behind the housing.
I just put the 9063 (I'm a short leg guy) on my 09 SG. SWEET, Simple install.
There is also some ebay kit that uses the mid shaft and adds some stuff to bring it to forwards. Somebody here posted up a thread about when they installed it, but I can't remember it. Not the way I would go, but pretty inexpensive IIRC.
