I want to buy some Thunderheaders but I'm concerned about the heat issue that arises from not having the shields (due to a lack of funds).
So I think I came up with a great idea (please tell me if I'm wrong)
I want to do the DIY ceramic coating on the headers using the VHT high temp coating with primer and then afterwards wrap them using the Titanium wrap from DEI.
My thought is that the high temp coating will strengthen the headers and prevent any rusting and the wrap will further reduce the heat and potentially cover up the crappy job I might do coating the pipes.
So what do you guys think? Are there any issue from doing this? Is this a stupid idea or potentially genius?
It traps heat and t headers are already known for getting real hot already.
Heat shields let the back of the pipe cool where as the wrap, well, wraps around the entire pipe. Could get so hot that it will crack and adding a coat of that VHT just adds to it.
I thought that ceramic coating was supposed to dissipate the heat faster?
Yes, but then u r planning on wrapping it after u spray it right? All that will just get trapped in the wrap. Your gamble on the way you want to go.
I recommend the wrap because it will look better longer. Two different friends did the VHT and it goes away after a season of decent riding and starts looking faded and cruddy real fast after.
