Can a speedometer be calibrated? Got stopped today by a cop and he said I was going 60 in a 50 MPH zone. Now I must admit, sometimes it does feel like I am going faster than what the speedo says. :

Have you checked with your dealership to see what they think? Mine is pretty good at answering questions.

Have a friend in a "good" car drive along side and find out IF in fact your speedo is bad. It's more likely that the cops radar could have given an erroneous reading.

I have checked the odometer on my FXR, comparing it to the mile markers along I-35. My odometer reads about 2.5% high, i.e., it says I've traveled about 102.5 miles when the mile post markers indicate I've done 100 miles.
I'm wondering is the odometer is tied to the speedometer and, if so, maybe my speedo is also reading a little high (or is it low?).

If you change dthe size of your tire you will have to get the speedo re calibrated and the dealer has the equipment to do it and it should only be a half hour labor tops

If you have (or can borrrow) a GPS you can mark an exact 1 mile on an open road and clock your time through it and figure it out. That should give you the exact mph - of course that don't mean squat if the police radar gun says different eh!

The expressway mile markers are just that. One mile. So at 60 it takes 1 minute to do one.

You trip should show 1 mile also.
