It comes from this. It also comes from the guy who said Americans are worth more than everyone else combined. I would venture to say that I am not the only combat veteran in this forum that has seen the good and bad of middle eastern people first hand. My cousin Mike was shot 9 times and blown out of a building by a grenade in a raid when Iraqis didn't pull their weight. And even Mike knows that all life is invaluable. I think the ethnicity of the foreigners probably shouldn't have been brought up. No disrespect to the OP, as he seems to be a reasonable and respectful guy even in a shitty situation. It's the others here that I am worried about.
For starters he may not have been talking about middle-easterners per se.. but if he was.. my statement and where "Im at with it" stands.. I have seen the 'courage' of the middle-easterner on display many times.. unfortunately.. It sucks to hear that about your cousin .. hope he is recovered and doing well.. however.. had they pulled their weight and been as courageous as he was in fighting for their own country that scenario that happened might not have. I didn't say that their lives were invaluable.. but next to another American.. esp. a brother Soldier or Marine.. the lot of them are worth 0..
So in regards to myself, ease your worries.. let not your thoughts be troubled or your high moral tone be affected.. it is as it is and neither my mind nor my opinion of and on them.. will ever change.
I was simply going out to make it clear that, in this country, we are taught to look but don't touch. I was tickled with the attention until he grabbed the bars and started twisting the throttle and squeezing the clutch. As I walked out the door, he was on the bike, wearing MY helmet and twisting everything. That is when I got pissed and signed to him that he could look but NOT touch. He acknowledged that he understood, and it was over. They went one way and I went back to my lunch. It just bothers me that different cultures from different countries don't teach their offspring to respect the property of others by not touching what is not yours to touch. I was not making a racial statement, I was making a cultural statement.
When at a rally in 03 in New Orleans, a guy walked up and said "welcome home". I asked what he meant. He pointed to the Vietnam feather on my vest. It was the first time anyone had ever said that to me--- kicked my butt. So for anyone who's been there, done that, "welcome home."
Anybody with half a brain, no matter where the hell they are from, should know better than to touch someone's property and then this db even had the audacity to put on the op's helmet.
Damn lucky op was so restrained.
Next time it may not go so well for the POS that doesn't even have half a brain.
