Just have a couple hundred miles on my Street Bob, and finally noticed that the tailights are not lit up except forflashing for a turn. Is that the way it's supposed to be?
Yes, but if you want them to act as running/turn/brake lights then get the plug-in module from your HD dealer or Ebay or Indie...
It comes with 2 red lenses and makes your rear turn signals function like running and brake lights also.
It does make the back end light up more.
Yup, that's the way Harley delivers it. BUT, for a small price, you can purchase a simple plug in module that will convert your signal (only) lights to full time running lights. Ain't Harley marketing GREAT! They are the marketing machine.
Dude, from the looks of it, you might ought to consider bumpers, air bags and full body armor! I try and try to convey to my wife (who rides her own bike), that just because she can stop in time to avoid an accident doesn't mean the cage behind her can. That's my worst fear... getting smacked from the rear. I figure if it's in front of me, at least I have a chance. Other than the busted up arm I see in the picture, did you suffer any more serious injuries? Looks like the bike is probably totaled too.
My next bike will have the kit installed before it is ever ridden at night. It will also have a sissybar tailight/stoplight combo as well.
It may look retarded with all that light back there, but I really don't give a f"ck.
I'm even thinking about a big tall sissy bar with a flashing strobe like the one's on top of a school bus.[:@]
Nothing like getting rear-ended on a bike, eh? Happened to me at a stop light back in 1982. I was running my3 week old KZ 1000 back from the dealer after it's 1st service... I ended up on the guy's hood (he was sloppy drunk). Got to watch my brand new bike do a flip and slaminto the road. Funny, thedude never mentioned to the cops why the driver's door of his Honda was caved in If I remember,I broke my big toe doing it - but it was worth it!
My bud has the tail light kit on his Roaster - it's pretty slick!
WiscDyna, Yes - For that reason, my Bagger-Buds put me in the middle of the pack or want me to lead when riding with them at night. They all have the three bar set up that I don't think goes well on a Dyna. I recently modded my Bob-type taillight and added four more bulbs it looks like this o0O0 o The large center is the factory double filament and two outside are running lights. The two outside the center are added brake lights. I also added the Blue Dot to the lens. This added some light but they still IMO need more to be visable. My plans are to convert the rear blinkers to three wire units like the front. That way you can use the two filament bulbs -1057 instead of the single filament1056 bulbs. They are easy two convert you just switch-out the innards. Good luck - DD
