Sold my '08 super glide last sunday. they put it on a trailer and took it home. called me later and said it wouldn't start. after four hours of phone calls they got some info from someone that the bike's security system went into (trailer mode). he's had to push the signal buttons in a sequence to get the bike to start. he's taking it to harley to get it straightened out.. i said unhook the battery and maybe it will reset itself. anyone ever heard of this?
Yeah, I've heard of bikes killing their batteries because they weren't put into trailer mode and towed long distances...would yours crank but not start, or just not crank?
And if he had to key in the turn signal sequence to get it to start, either the fob was out of range or the thing was so dead it dropped it's 'marriage' to the fob, maybe?
unless he did the sequence of button pushing. but he loves the bike. it had just under 19,000 miles. i sold it to him for 6k. here is some pics so you can see he got a good deal.
sad part was, he only bought it cause his wife passed away in a tragic car accident a month ago, he was using some of the insurance money. he said he had talked to her about him getting my bike before her accident and she would of wanted him to follow through with it..we were counting the money and he started to cry telling me the story. i told him to stop counting and it looked fine and gave him a hug,,i almost started to cry.
I believe that you would have to program the security system to go into trailer mode. If you gave him the FOBS it should start I would think.
You have to manually put in trailer mode. If not the security system will interpret every little jostle while in the trailer as a threat and activate the security system. You didn't say how long he had to trailer home. If he had fob and battery did not die from a long trip home with security activated it should have started.
