Default Electrical problem 2003 FXDWG

I've got some weird electrical problem going on. When it first started the check engine light would come on at rpm over 1000 then go out at idle. Now it comes on and off randomly, the speedometer works intermittently, turn signal self cancel no longer works, and sometInes the security light comes on even though I don't have security system on the bike. I've checked all the wiring connections. I've read a few posts where this might be caused by a bad voltage regulator. The bike runs fine, all the lights work etc. Sometimes the speedo will hang at 10 mph, and the odometer will go blank. I was sure it was a loose wire as I recently had the tank off while installing a new carb. The bike has always been carbed, pretty much stock except for S&S super E carb and a set of Vance and Hines straight shot slip ons. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I can't find anything in the service manual that this scenario fits. Thanks in advance

I would guess either the regulator (or reg gnd) or the 5v output of the ignition module (if it has one)

Thanks, I've read a few posts where the regulator is the culprit. I'm going to try that first.

The connector for the reg is right under the oil filter so it can get pretty nasty over the course of 13 years. Maybe check that and the ground wire for the reg before ordering a new one.
