Default Anyone cut off rear struts?

I'm thinking of going to a "rocket bobs" voodoo rear fender setup which require. Cutting off the struts right at the shock mounts. Their website has only a few basic pics on a selection of bikes and I can't get a good look at it. You tube has about 2vids and Google search has a few pics. Anybody do this or seen this 1st hand? I know there was a member on here that made his own but can't remember his name, any help would be APRECIATED!!!!!!!

If your going to do it,make sure to leave some "meat" around the insert! Just go slow and creep up on it.

Use the thin 3 inch 3m cut off wheels then finish with an angle grinder with the sure lok sanding disks. (3m) I took the guard off the cutter to get a better view of what I was cutting. just wear safety glasses! Cuz it sucks to get bits of metal pulled out of your eyes.

I'm not in the Rocket Bob's club but I no longer have struts. Can't help with specifics on fitting the Voodoo. Shouldn't be much different than fitting a Pintail or going naked. I don't have much to add beyond what Nox already said.

It's easy. Just don't take too much with the first big cut. Much harder to add than subtract.

I wasn't nervous at all, but I'm a chopper at heart. I void the warranty on everything.

IIRC, there is a YouTube video that does a good job showing the process. I'll see if I can find it.

Here it is:

I've got a build thread you can check with lots of pics of everything from the struts to the lights.

I have the Pintail currently but will be putting on the RB's fender. For the lights I went with the 3 in 1 crotch rocket lights. I have the light bar set up now but had him drill/tap the new strut for the lights this time around. Wild hair accessories has the lights. I can NEVER remember the damn name of em😬 Their spendy but super compact/bright. When you cut the strut just give yourself like a good 3/4 inch around then use those discs in 80 grit to rough it in and finish by hand. Those sanding discs make short work of that metal trust me. Or just take it to a body shop with the pics. They will have all the same tools. I also have a badlands load equalizer for the lights.

That video is mine. I was a little apprehensive but got over it after the first cut. Just make sure you use something that won't catch on fire from the sparks. I put towels over the bike and they started on fire. I had noting else to use so I wet down all the towels and all I got then was steam from the hot sparks. Something fire proof would be better. Use heavy duty gloves. Don't use cheap cloth ones they will catch on fire too. A long sleeve shirt wouldn't hurt.

Good advice. I didn't use anything to protect my bike, but it's not as nice as yours or Nox's. Some sparks weren't gonna hurt my paint any worse than it already was!
