Default Chain conversion

How easy is it to do a chain conversion on a Dyna, i wanna do one on my street bob for gearing purposes and looks... I know the primary has to come off (which I've never done) but what does it entail.
Also the belt vs chain debate is irrelevant here. Any info or first hand knowledge would be great
Thanks

I haven't done the conversion to chain, but I did forward to mid controls. That involves removing inner and outer primary case. You need the manual a basic set of tools a gasket kit. The hardest part for me was adjusting the clutch. Take your time and read the manual, one bolt turns the opposite direction... Post a picture, chain drive looks cool.

It's not bad at all. Like stated before get a manual and a Saturday off. I switched my Softail over last spring using a Zipper's Performance kit. Absolutely no issues, direct bolt on.

Zippers. When the belt goes on mine that's what it will be. I run chains on all of my other bikes

Cool guys. Thanks.
I've been going over the thread about the chain conversion and studying the info on there. Seems to be straight forward once the offsets are correct. It'll be my project after riding season is finished.

Honestly, in order to buy all the parts separately and figure the **** out it will cost you almost the same as what's in the zippers direct bolt on kit. Except without the fuss. The worst part is figuring out the sprocket offsets and buying a decent appropriate length chain

Are there lots of sprocket size choices for HD's?
Using a "630" size chain?
How many miles do you expect to get per chain & sprocket set?

I've not run across any sprockets or pulleys that fit 630 chain. 530 on the other hand has a plethora of options. Maybe 6 front sprockets and 12 rear...rough estimate. And more chain options than you can shake a stick at.

Based on my brief research, life of the drive parts varies by a LOT. I've seen reports ranging from 2k miles to 25k+ miles. I didn't dig very deep. Longevity doesn't concern me for this application

They last longer than that (25k). It all depends on how well You do. Is everything in alignment, is the chain properly tensioned, and are you spraying lubricants on the chain?
