Default Dyna Battery Box

I have two FXDXs with the same problem: the battery box corner sticks out just enough to be uncomfortable on the right leg. I have converted one bike to a lithium battery which is much smaller and much lighter. The amount of room inside the battery box is substantial. Before I try to cut down the box, does anyone know of a smaller, after market battery box that might fit? Seems like a good solution for a common problem.

Any other suggestions?

I didn't have that problem until I put a small bag on the box. I was expecting it since my leg laid against it already. I haven't heard any issues so far on the forum. I would imagine if your not very tall you might have issues.

HD - Part Number 66192-99 has nice rounded corners - may just be the ticket.

I rub the finish off the corner within a few months, but I never noticed any discomfort.

Regardless, I'll be curious to hear what you come up with. I've cosidered doing the same mod but haven't heard many encouraging reports on lithium batteries.

What year is your bike? I'm under the impression that the FXDX never had a battery box from the factory, but rather an exposed solid black battery. Is it possible that someone added a box to your bike that doesn't fit properly?

Thanks for the reply. I have a '99 FXDX and a 2001 FXDX; both have an identical battery setup with identical battery boxes

Thanks for the reply. I am not that tall at 5'10" and I do have slightly longer legs for my height. Forgot to mention -- both of my FXDXs have mid controls. The '99 had forward controls until I took that stuff off and converted the bike back to original, The leg rubbing problem is a little worse now than before.

Thanks. I was a little leery about a LI battery but after reading quite a bit, I tried on on my 2001 FXDX. So far I am quite pleased. If you are not riding most of the time and tend to use a battery float charger, you will need one specifically designed for a LI battery
