I'm going for my 1k service tomorrow, and I really want to have a new exhaust put on. I have Python s/o 's right now. What is a good pipe that's loud but not drag loud. I have been looking at Bubs jug huggers or Samson's. Any suggestions please.I'd like to make an appt tomorrow.
I'm very happy with the sound and performance of my Rush slip-ons. Great rumble - loud, but not obnoxious. But the best part is they offer 5 different baffle sizes (1.5" to 2.5"). So you've got a lot of options to fine tune your sound (louder/softer).
I've got the 2" baffles in mine. They've got a nice deep rumble - not raspy like drags. But still loud enough to get a cager's attention when they're on a cell and not paying attention. I'm not sure how they compare to Pythons. I'd recommend 2" or larger (2.25, 2.5) to start. If those are too loud you can always quiet them down with the smaller sizes later.
I have Vance & Hines Pro Pipes HS 2 into 1 with the competition baffle. I love the look and sound. They give my bike a deep, throaty rumble and it performs great with the Mikuni 42 and SE Hi Flo Intake I installed at the same time. Here's a pic:
Vance and Hines Short Shot staggereds on my bike. Love the sound and yes, they are loud but not overly so. (IMO)
As I put miles on them I think they are getting louder, but that could be my imagination.
Was at the dealer yesterday and was asking around about exhaust. Everyone from salesmen to mechanic recommend thunderheader 2 into 1's.Has anyone heard these before? Can't find a sound video on the web!!
My Samsons are a year old and have a radial crack in the front pipe. Right at the rear mount bracket. They refuse to do anything about it, even though it takes a long time for a crack like that to develop. I called them three weeks out of warranty. Douchebags.
Rich products THUNDERHEADER!
I have one on my 85 FLHTC, 88 FXLR, 99 FXSTB, they work plain and simple, very very well. At idle the sound is not tooo loud, you can cruise home at 3 in the morning at light throttle settings, but when you give her some stick and that pipe makes noise.
I will stick to performance and put one on my new street bob which is on order.
The Vance and Hines Pro Pipe has better chrome finish and a more mellow sound IMHO.
