Default Switchback suspension ?'s

Greetings,

I have a Switchback that I've put Hagon Nitro 13" shocks on and Racetech Emulators and springs in the forks. Since doing this, I'm guessing from the added height to the shocks, the bike feels a smidge twitchy...almost a little too fast on turn in.

Is there a way to lengthen the fork tubes at all to compensate for the added height of the shocks? I'm guessing if "yes", then new longer springs or a longer preload spacer would be needed? Also considering going with the Andreani fork kit. Not sure how longer tubes would play out with this kit. As part of this project, I'm considering switching to Ohlins 13 3/8" length shocks at the same time.

Have you tried adjusting the preload?

Yes, schmucko me originally didn't have any preload on the front. I'm now running 25-30mm of preload with the Racetech springs (forget the exact number, but I think 1.25" sounds right) and the front is very good for bump absorption and what not. But again I think because of the increased shock height (also now running Pirelli Night Dragon tires which seem to have a slightly higher profile as well), the front end feels a little twitchy.

I am holding, but also using. Try the Switchback forum, you might get lucky there. You might also try the forks from a Softail Slim. I'm not positive, but I think the forks are the same as the Switchback....both 41mm and I know the fender works for both.

I meant in the back with the Hagon's. Try a couple of clicks less and see if it is better. Also to answer your original question, if the switchback uses normal dyna forks there are extended screw on fork caps available that are fairly inexpensive, but will add height to the forks. I haven't tried them myself, but below is an example of what I am talking about.

Ahhh, gotcha. Yes, I have futzed with the Nitro shocks (both preload and dampening). Don't get me wrong, the Nitro's work pretty well, but I keep on hearing how Ohlins provide a higher level of plush and control....tempted to try.
Unfortunately, the FLD forks are not standard size Dyna forks. FLD forks are 41mm, where one side has standard damper and the other side has a low tech cartridge. I think the forks are the same as a Softtail Slim.

Cheers Phog,

Yes I do have the stock shocks still, however I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a different bike. I'll be putting the stock shocks back on the bike to sell. If I decide not to, I'll let you know.
