Go ahead with a 2017 or wait for a 2018

Just buy an inexpensive used Dyna and wait a year or so. It's your first road bike, who knows, maybe you'll want a Touring Bike or Sport Bike after 3 months of owning a Dyna. Maybe you'll want a Wide Glide or a Fat Bob latter.
Get something used for half the price and you won't be taking a hit on the trade if you end up wanting a next Gen Dyna.

I to say wait for the 18s to come out, then go to your dealer and look for a deal on a Bike.
There is nothing wrong with a Street Bob, except it still doesn't have the Rushmore engine.
If it was me, I would see if the 18 Dynas have the new M8 in a new frame.
If not then I'd work a deal on a 17 LowRider with the Rushmore engine in it.
That's just me, do what you want.
P.S. Welcome to our Forum, lots of good info here.

Buy now
Buy now! Dealers are trying to clean house and seem to be swinging deals almost to good to be true, especially on the non m8 machines! If they do indeed go with an m8 in a softy and have to change frames, there will be development issues inevitably that all new bikes go thru. If you see a new bike in your future, my money's on a 2017.

I would personally go to the dealer and ride everything that jumps out at me. If you find a bike that you fall in love with, that would be just as good as a 2018 that you'd fall in love with. You'll know when you get back from the test ride. If nothing does it for you, then a 2018 could be the answer. At least ride the '17's and you'll know.
