Default Reindeer's '09 Super Glide Custom: Consolidated

A couple recent threads have had me scrolling through old photos of my bike an thinking through all the things I've done with it. I decided to put together a thread like others have done documenting everything I've done to it, and a place to show off future mods.

Picked up the bike in spring 2012 locally from a private party. Had a little over 4700 miles on it. Already had some upgrades: Stage 1 AC, Cobra pipes, dealer ECM download, some seriously wide apes, Mustang saddle, forward controls, and detachable accessories.

First picture I took when I got it home.

I had a few things planned for it before I even got it home. I was inspired by a few bikes on this forum, most notably WS6 Formulas, Jpncoast (I think that was his name...) and another that I think belonged to Mark Koby. The common link to all those was the 21" front wheel, which in my opinion totally changes the look of the Dynas for the better. I assumed it was as easy as just buying a different wheel, but I later figured out the difference between the wide glide, mid glide, and narrow glide hubs, and realized I'd have to build my own.

I changed a few minor things before tackling the front wheel. I had worked a few years as a bicycle mechanic, and built a number of wheels, so I figured I could handle a motorcycle wheel.

After that I decided to bump up the power a bit with some Wood 555 cams and a Thundermax tuner. I really only rode it like that for a month or so before winter came and I got a little more serious.

I was a little disappointed with the power bump from cams only, definitely more power on the upper RPMs, but soft on the bottom. I decided to tear the motor down and added some 103" cylinders, mild ported heads, and a D&D Fatcat. I also repainted the tins. I was never real crazy about the factory silver/black two-tone.

I work at a body shop, so I had access to everything I needed. I sanded and prepped the tins, had them sprayed Ford Tuxedo Black Metallic, masked off the flames, then had them sprayed with House of Kolor translucent flakes.

Motor going back together with new cylinders that I had powdercoated black. I got the idea from looking at pictures of '70s bikes for inspiration, and noticing the shovelheads were often silver with black cylinders. Subtle mod that most people don't notice.

Here's a thread detailing that round of mods in more detail: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...ore-power.html

Couple minor upgrades a few years ago to get it aesthetically about where I am now. Installed a chrome battery cover off a HD1 Street Bob to give it more of a traditional look, and installed CCE 2" over fork tubes and chrome sliders.

Very nice. I had the same exact experience. I've done 8 motorcycle wheels so far including the 21" for my '07 Street Bob. I thought that the motorcycle wheels were a little more difficult to lace because there's no flexibility in the spokes, but much easier to true because that big heavy rim just wants to be true.

Excellent work on your bike.
