I am getting ready to replace both front and rear tires. I paid $595 to the dealer the last time I needed tires for Michelin Scorcher 2. I am a little concerned about the rear tire. It's a 180/60-17 tire. What would be the problem if I put a 160/70-17 tire on? Can someone enlighten me on that? I have a 2011 DYNA Wide Glide with 92,609 mile and this last set of tires I have put 8,738 miles on them. I would love to get 10,000+ but it looks like that is impossible. I ride every day and put anywhere from 25 to 200 miles on it.
id recommend Michelin commander 2s if you want long lasting rubber. Youll sacrifice some grip for a harder compound but you will get over 10k+ miles if you maintain proper air pressure
What about the size? Will there be a problem if I use a tire that is 160/70-17 instead of 180/60-17 for the rear tire?
The rear wheel on your '11 Wide Glide is a 17" x 4.5". The '06 - '08 Wide Glide, the Switchback, the through '15 Low Rider, Super Glide, and the Street Bob also used 17" x 4.5" wheels but ran a 160/70-17 rear tire.
There shouldn't be any fitment problem using the the 160/70-17 on your '11 Wide Glide. The 180/60-17 tire currently used on the Wide Glide is actually the max size tire you can run on a 4.5" wheel...
Many old sb and lrs both would need new tires around 3k. No but outs but I do 95% highway, and in Michigan we have these stupid ****ing rain grooves that like to help eat your tire. I run night dragon and will never go back to stock. The stock tires would last 7k, but not safely.
Ive got about 4K on my night dragon, it was slightly cheaper than stock (with my discount), and it's still just over 7/32 tread depth.
The first model with the 4.5" x 17" rear wheel was the Deuce AFAIK - I have one in my Glide and use an Avon Storm 3D-XM 160/70 tyre. I'd be quite happy with around 9k miles!

night dragon is a good tire but for his needs they won’t last long past 8k miles it’s a performance tire
