Top mount headlight question

Default Top mount headlight question
So I just sandblasted my headlight eyebrow and I notice a cover plate glued on covering a slotted hole like maybe something belong there. Any idea what it is? Possibly different location for the idiot lights?

cuz it's old. that brow has been in use since the 80s and earlier in other forms
