so ive looked everywhere trying to find a replacement fuel gauge for my 2000 fxdx i found one with the part number for a 2004 fxdx and ordered it.... will it work????or am i missing something

when i bought the bike it was is a salvage title with a few things here and there wrong.. id like to get my fuel gauge running but the one that was in there was siliconed in and the bolts and such seemed forced like the last guy that had it didnt really care very much plus it was missing the wiring harness.

so will the 04 fuel gauge work if i pull the plastic housing off(because they don't seem to connect) and match the wires to the right places or is the electrical current that tells the gauge the fuel level different?

back story on the bike is that i picked it up after the previous owner wrecked it the tank was damaged go a new one the fork tubes were bent got a new one and the rim was cracked and i got a new one so the last piece of the puzzle to get this bike completely working is this fuel gauge and a new dash

Sounds like the same gauge I put in my 99. I had to trim the plastic "pins" that stick out the back to get it to seat all the way down but otherwise it dropped right in and works fine.

 

I think I might have one if you can' find one, I'll check the parts bins tomorrow

I found one on eBay a year ago, in very good condition. I've been on a quest to have two fully complete tanks with different paint... I like the "Hey... Presto!" quick change effect!

I have almost everything now...

Have you searched eBay? It took me about a week of being diligent... But it's the exact right part (in fully functional condition).

 

yea but i think the part that i bought was wrong. Do you have a picture or a part number? The one i bought was for a 04 fxdx and i dont think it will work for my 2000 i tried to fit it in and it didn't look very good and i wasn't looking to force it just yet!!! thanks in advance for the help

That's definitely NOT what I got. Seems much smaller. Is this a tank mount gauge? As in, like a dummy gas cap?

Cheap as chips tho. Especially for NOS. Mine seem to start at around $50 for used (may not work) to around $150 for NOS.

I ordered one used piece that was DOA (seller didn't know) before getting the later model one I have now.

 

bahaha thats why i keep asking for a picture of one in a 2000 fxdx ive googled it and wasnt sure i was finding the right thing... plus googled the crap out of the part number still not sure so i figured i would see what you guys have to say

 

oh and not its not a dummy gas cap one its the one that mounts in the dash on the tank
