Default 2010 Street Bob Hyperflashing

Hi all,

I have a hyperflashing issue I'd like everyone's opinion on (entire story to follow; TL;DR at the end).

To start off, the setup of my bike was halogen bulbs (stock) for the front turn signals, with LEDs in the rear. During the winter, in my infinite wisdom, I decided to take off and disassemble my front turn signals and have the bodies powder-coated black. When I started to re-assemble the turn signals, I also decided to disconnect the running turn signals (with the assumption that since it is not apart of the flasher circuit - therefore it shouldn't effect it). When I re-assembled the right turn signal, without the running light, the turn signal functioned as expected (the security light did come on - but I assume this is because I didn't have the left turn signal hooked up. However, when I hooked up the left turn signal, I started to experience hyper-flashing after 5-6 blinks. As well, the security light also came on.

To start debugging, I first switched the rear turn signals to verify it wasn't them. Ie, I made sure that both rear turn-signals experienced hyper-flashing when hooked up to the "front left" turn signal circuit. I also verified that all connections to the turn signal (black to black, purple to purple). Since none of this worked, I decided to hook up the running lights on the left side to see if that had any effect. After hooking it up and turning on the bike's key into the "on" position but not starting it, I noticed that the running lights are not powering on and I'm still getting hyperflashing on the left side. I have measured the voltage across the running lights and the ground and got 12V and the bulb is not burned out (Sometimes, when I hook up a multi-meter between the running light and ground, I do get a flash of light. Also, when examining the bulb itself, there appears to be no burned-out halogen). I'm lost and frustrated as to why I'm still getting hyperflashing. Any tips or suggestions?

TL;DR
I disassembled and re-assembled my front turn signals, and I am now experiencing hyper-flashing on one side.

As an update (and as a way to bump this thread ), I attached the running wires to both left and right side turn signals. Once this was done, I was able to get the left side turn signal to power on in a "running" state (this is with the amber bulb mind you). However, it fails to flash when the turn signals are on. The other issue is, when I attach the white bulbs (that were stock to my knowledge), it fails to turn on. I can somewhat get it to turn on and flash if I move the bulb around enough. This leads to me (guessing) that it may be an issue to the way I soldered them together? But, I'm not sure and still need as much help as possible.

First problem is LED turn signals. You really need an equalizer for them to flash correctly. Second is why disconnect the front running lights? 99% of the cagers can't see us,so for more visibility for them to see us, front running light . . . and you disconnected you front running lights. Check you solder joints.

Try searching canbus on the forum. Might be a solution there.

Wow! Ok,, go back to square one.
The issue is much simpler then you think. It has to do with HD signals being generic to either side of the bike.
HD doesn't care which side you put the housing on, and neither does their wiring. The signals are insulated and isolated,, they only need ground and power,,
,,but they don't get ground from the frame,, they get ground from the harness,, aka: the wires,, and the wire color from the harness is the same for each side.(where they plug in)
Follow that? Works great with incandescent bulbs.
LED turn only have two wires too.
But,,aftermarket LED's sometimes (some manufacturers) can be ground specific, they need the power to one side and the ground to the other,, if it ain't right they don't work.
The fix;
De-pin the left side rear female plug for the signal and change the wire position,,
,, the wire on the right,, should be on the left,, basically your changing the polarization feed of the rear left side LED.

Sorry for the delay in response; got a tad bit side-tracked this weekend.

Regardless, I did figure out the issue. Long story short, the contacts the touch the front bulb contacts (the little round this on the bulb) were either dented or bent slightly. To remedy this, I added some solder to the contacts.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I was not adding LEDs to the front turn signals. I was just removing the front turn signal housings, and having them painted. I do have LEDs on the rear - but this has been on for about a year with no issues (From inspection of the rear LED, I do believe there is a resistor already on the LED PCB to prevent hyperflashing).
