Default carb question

i have a 98 dyna wide glide i bought about 2 years ago with 24000 miles. The exhaust on the bike was an aftermarket exhaust no baffles and loud. I started to do maintanence on the bike after taking it to a couple a mechanics shops for advice . The mechanics notice that besides discoloration on the head pipes there discoloration( blueing) on the muffler. They suggested that the bike is running too lean and that was the cause for the blueing on the muffler. I was told to take apart the carb clean and possible rejet it. I am right now to trying to decide on a different exhaust maybe bassini 2 in to 1 exhaust and was wondering was is the best cource of action.... take the carb apart and clean it and what is the best way to clean this carb or also should i rejet the carb in the process. one mechanic said to fix the carb before installing new pipes the other mechanic said fix the carb after new pipes .Harley suggested that after i get a new exhaust and carb cleaned to bring it in for dyno testing . I was wondering if this is something i should do. Thank you to all the bikers who have given me advice i am new to wrenching and this forum has been a godsend for giving me guidance .

If you're gonna send it in for dyno anyway, just take the jet kit with you. Make sure it's running good before going, tho.

If you don't know how to clean a carb, I wouldn't recommend messing with tuning.

Cleaning a carb is simple but great attention to detail is required. Lots of small parts and careful fitting.

For reference concerning the carb, visit Nightrider.com, click on V-Twin Café, go to the drop down and click on CV Carburetor. There they describe what it takes to modify a stock carb. Another good source is Look up Joe Minton and tuning the CV Carb. I realize you want advice on re-building, take it to an indy and ask to rebuild it to work with the exhaust but I would advise not having a Dyno-Jet Carb kit installed. There have been more failures stories here than success stories on the Dyno-Jet. At least you'll be informed.
