It 's time for winter storage. Do most of you all drain the gas or just add fuel stabilizer? I was told fuel additives can be bad for the motor? I have almost a full tank before winter set in. Tires are aired up, bike is on stand with wheels off the ground and battery saver plugged in.
Thanks for replies
Mine is stored inside which keeps it away from environmental challenges.
Full tank 94 octane with stabilizer and, oil and primary change with battery tender hook up. Works on all my bikes, and fire it up once a month. Never had an issue.
Back in the olden days when I had my 75 Kawi Z1 and 77 KZ 1000 I used to fog the cylinders along with just topping off the gas tank as to leave no room for air. Now with my 14 Fat Bob, I fill the tank and add StaBill at put the battery on a tender.
I recommend you not fire it up unless you're going to ride it. As soon as you start it you get moisture in the crankcase and valve covers. The moisture promotes corrosion and also forms acids in the oil. Unless you run it long enough for the oil to get up to boiling in the hottest parts of the engine and stay there long enough to boil off all the moisture, you're better off not doing anything.
I run Sea Foam in my fuel year round, so when it comes to winter storage....I just add a little more Sea Foam than usual and leave her be.
She's always connected to the battery tender. Never started UNLESS I take her out for a ride. Always garage kept.
The Stabil or Startron are both good and will not harm the engine when the proper mix is used. What ever you put in the engine needs to operated long enough to get the mix through the system. As far as battery maintainers, get a smart tender that will float charge your battery and not dry it out/cook it.
