I know I am probably beating a dead horse, butmy Bob isgoing to be due for it's 10,000 mile service. I heard it was around $500.00. Is it worth it or should I just buy the book and do it myself.

If you are pretty good with tools and such...do it yourself. I dont take my bike in for anything at the dealer unless its something I just absolutely dont have the tools or equipment for. Save yourself some dough.
Go slow and be thorough read and re-read your tech manual for that particular service requirement. Most of all enjoy!
Workin on my own stuff has always given me a certain appreciation and sense of security.
