Default BLEEDING BRAKES

it has been awhile since checking the forum but i remember guys complaining about their brakes being mushy after they did some work on them and then bled them. well i have been fighting the same problem. i bled the heck out of the front one and even did all the tricks suggested. today i was ready to go buy new pads and thought i might try one last thing before i did. i pulled the front caliper off and stuck a small piece of wood in between the pads. the wood was smaller than the rotor itself. then i pumped the handle until it tightened up on the wood. when i did i noticed that the brakes became a lot more solid. as i was taking off the caliper i had a bit of dust come out of it and i wondered if maybe the pistons were just sticking. so while it was off i blew it out with air and put in back on. after i tighten everything up i went for a ride and the brake was as solid as when i bought the bike. i do not know if this will help anyone else but if you have tried bleeding and the brakes still seem mushy, try pumping them on a smaller scale and letting the pads move in some more. then clean out the dust behind the pads and make sure your pistons are working.
obviously you still need to do a good job of bleeding them. hopes this helps

I'm getting ready to install Lyndall pads on my bike. Their directions including cleaning the caliper, which they suggest doing regularly. I can't recall offhand if the HD service manual says this or not... sounds like it worked for you and will keep in mind.

thanks
