Default Charging Problems

im having charging problems and disconnected the plug that goes from the stator to the voltage regulator and found oil in it. Would this be correct ? Seems like the oil wouldnt let a good connection to be made to the voltage regulator. Anyway i cleaned it out with carb cleaner, as told by a friend to do. Letting it dry out !

I think you have a oil leak, look around and see if you can find it.

when the oil filter is removed during an oil change some oil will dribble down by the engine mount and to the rubber cover covering (shielding) the regulator to stator connection. i have started taking the extra step ofcleaning out the plug with brake cleaner (disconnected ), let it dry, and connect it. the oil could pass current between the connections in the plug and could cost you a shorted stator or regulator. just a little extra TLC. other models have problem of oil leaking out of the primary case and by capillary action make it's way to the plug, have not heard of this on the dynas.

have done the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the electrical and light forum. they lengthy thats why iam not repeating them here. may i suggest a regulator from cycle electric if that is the culprit. if its a stator i would relace with a cycle electric stator AND regulator. just my .02 cents and experience with moco regulators.
