OK, here's one for you. I have a 2000 Dyna Wide-Glide - my first Harley. I'm replacing the pipes with Bassani Road Rage 2-into-1 pipes. The package arrives, and I pull out the instructions and start reading. The first step listed is to remove the O2 sensors from the old pipes. I look and ... NO O2 SENSORS! This bike has no O2 sensor. I check the user manual to be sure ... not mentioned anywhere. The Bassani pipes have ports to plug in the sensors, while the old pipes are solid - no sensor ports. Some other message board posts mention that, if you run without sensors, an autotuner is required. This bike doesn't appear to have that, either. So of course, I have questions:
1) Was the 2000 FXDWG built without O2 sensors? If so, how is the A/F mixture monitored and adjusted ... if at all. If not, then apparently the previous owner has done some mods that I have yet to discover. Carb cleaning didn't reveal any issues or oddities. 2) This bike has run fine, so apparently the lack of O2 sensors hasn't been an issue. But what do I do about the ports in the Bassanis? I guess I should just plug them, but I'd like to hear some opinions first. I imagine simple bolt plugs would do the trick.
Yeah, it seems I was overlooking the fact that it's a carb model. So, the next question is, what to do with the O2 ports in the pipes. Are there special plugs on the market, or should regular bolts do?
Yes you can plug these ports, maybe who ever you got the exhaust from could send you some plugs. Explain to them what year bike, what model and maybe they will take the set back or you could sell them. I have a hunch you would have had a problem getting those on a 2000 frame.
You dont need the ports, just plug them. It will handy for tuning the carb though by cobbling together a wideband meter, O2 sensor and some rigged up wiring. You'll be able to ride around and track you AFR and adjust accordingly if you want.
