2004 Superglide, just purchased.
It's the kind with the flip up lever.
Instead of facing 12'oclock, it's facing like 8 o'clock and won't turn.
I searched the net for a video or diagram and nothing. I pulled the bolts around the cap and it just lifts the bib, I'll try again this week, but figured I'd ask for any ideas here before I tackle it.

 

Sounds like the same as mine and possibly someone forced it down in the wrong position mine won't even think of closing except with the flip Up at 12 O:Clock assuming you have the same one ..

 

Yes, same one. But location is at 8oclock and it will not move, I'm afraid I'll snap the door if I try to turn it any harder

 

Same thing with mine Jaystronghawk it will not lock unless at the 12 o,clock position, try putting it in at 8 or 9 and push down a tiny bit to the right till 12, then to lock it set the turn flip switch all way to the left then back to 12 oclock and see if that helps. sometimes mine gets stuck.

 

Just a thought, Try gently prying with a Screw Driver at different locations might come up and out but don't force it too hard ..
