Default fuel cap problem

I feel real stupid asking this but I rode my new Road King Classic home yesterday (first Harley I've ever had) and after quickly enjoying a full tank of fuel I cant get the gas cap off to put in more gas. Wierd. I turn the cap counter-clockwise a couple turns till it wont turn any more and everywhere in between but I can't get the cap to pull out no matter how hard I pull and I'm fairly tough. There looks to be a black plastic or metal neck that the chrome cap turns onto. It's Sunday and I want to ride. What the heck am I doing wrong?

The fuel cap "ratchets" when tightening after gas is put in the tank. It's possible the new cap is just tight due to being new on the gas tank. tidhten the cap till you feel one click then turn i tcounterclockwise till the click is heard and just get a grip on it. Once it's off I'd wipe a little vaseline on the "O" on the inside of the gas cap, this may help in future seizures.

your cap is broken. it should come off in one piece. the black part you are referring to is threaded. turn it hard c.c. wise and it will come out . then harley can give you a new cap.

Your cap is fine. Turn the cap counter-clockwise until resistance is felt. Then turn some more. And read your owners manual.

I was trying to pull it out after it quit turning easy. It just needed a little more oomph but I didn't want to wreck anything. Thanks Guys! Man this bike is sweet.

Congrats on your new bike Explorer! soft 02, you're a good man, taken the weight off a new guy by sharing your experience. I do respect that. Ride well.
