Default Cable Recomendations

I putting new bars on my '17 FXDB, going from the stock 12" mini-apes to 16" FMB choppers bars and adding a 1" riser extension for clearance. I've read a lot about cable kits that had everything in one box, but after doing some digging I heard enough bad things to change my mind, so I'm just going to pick them up individually and do the best brand for each. I'm just doing black cables, nothing fancy.

Any recommendations for throttle, front brake and clutch cable brands? I haven't taken any measurements yet, but I'm guessing stock +5 will get me where I need to be.

Subscribe. I have a cracked throttle cable i need to replace so I've been looking into kits/cables as well. If anyone knows the actual length of the "stock" length for LA choppers cables that would help me. I have the lucky daves lucky 13 13" bars that you can run with stock street bob cables but i've been made to understand that FXDB cables might be longer than other models stock cables?

Probably not what you're looking for, but I built my own from components supplied by Flanders (for throttle) and Goodridge (for brakes). Haven't tackled the clutch yet but I intend to DIY if at all possible. Leaning heavily toward a hydraulic conversion but need to research it a bit more. Task for later.

I think it's easier than most expect and it's also cheaper, while allowing very fine control over quality, fit, and finish.

Spiegler makes nice hydraulic lines. Not sure if they do pull cables or not.

You might as well do steal braided lines in black if you are changing them out.

Maybe my question was too general so I'm going to focus on the throttle cable first since once I have that installed I can get the gas tank mounted up and finished. Any recommendations for a good throttle cable brand? I need a place to start, I'm flying blind here!

I used Drag Specialities cables for my whole ride. Originally I was going to dump a bunch of coin into some nice higher end ones, but my local shop here convinced me these generic cables from Drag Specialities work just fine. Few years later, no issues. Smooth throttle play and clutch. So far so good. Garage stored inside , fair weather rider.

I’ve been impressed with the quality of Magnum Shielding cables and lines, not sure if they do kits though. I am using their black pearl line as I redo the DX.

Ended up going with a kit from LA Choppers, seemed highly rated and it was just under 200 bucks. Get the front brake line in this morning and I wish it was a bit longer. We'll see with the rest I guess.

Ditto Magnum's.
Probably the smoothest cables of any I've ever run.

Magnum also sells Build Your Own (BYO) raw hose and fitting kits, cut to length. No Special tools required.

The hoses also have swivel fittings so you don't have to twist the hose some random amount to connect the banjo bolts.
