I have a 2008 Streetbob to it to the Harley Dealer yesterday. It was making a grinding noise when i was starting it worse while hot. Has this happen with a previous Dyna i had so i figured compensator. Dealer called this morning said compensator was bad , clutch, clutch hub and primary was full of metal chunks. Bought the bike in January only put around 1500 miles on it . Bike now has 21,000 what would cause this ? Im glad i bought the extended warranty !
It quite possible if you had the stock primary chain adjuster, it overtightens and when it does this, the chain tightens and pulls on the comp. and most of the clutch hub parts including inner primary bearing. A lot have people have bought after market adjusters to remedy the over tightening event.
Went by and looked at it at the dealership . Cant believe it was ridable .
That sucks dude. Hopefully it's not there long. I am sure they are putting stock HD tensioner back in. I toyed around with a Baker and a SE type. I currently run they Hayden M6. For a little over $130 it's worked the best for me. Good luck and they get you riding again soon.

Dealer said it would be 10-14 days for parts . Last time it was in the shop they gave me a loaner bike .
Since my whole primary is basically being replaced shouldnt i have the dealer check the crank runout ? They never gave me a reason this happened.
Someone else may chime in here on this, but I think to correctly check crank runout, you need to check it on the cam side (pinion shaft)
Since they aren't in that side, they probably won't. I had .002'' runout when I switched to gear drive and it hasn't moved since then when I last checked. You should be fine.
Man, sorry to hear about that, unfortunately its a known issue. My primary compensator sprocket just started making a slight clatter noise at start up at idle yesterday, I knew what it was and shut it down. If left unchecked, and not replacing it with the upgraded C sprocket kit, or continue riding it, what you are going through will be the result. Here's a video explaining the problem and potential damage, not a Dyna, but the Dyna's have the same issue. I'm getting ready to replace mine.

I thought it could be checked on the sprocket shaft on the primary side also.
