Default Speedometer position

I was wondering if anyone has tried the setup in this picture to move the speedo down on and 06 or 07 FXDI. I went to the stealer and he said this setup is for a 03 sportster custom and all the parts he thought it would need would cost about $350. He was concerned about the clearance with the tank and it may require at least a short riser over stock.

Is it possible that this setup may work? The stealer could not find any parts that matched up with the way this looks and it seems to position the speedo higher. He said the stock speedo is 4" and the picture said this is a 33/4" gauge. If someone has bee able to do this do you have part # andcosts?

Do a good search. I have seen guys on here who have done this. About two months ago, one forum member bought such a mount/housing from another member through the classifieds. I only remember this because I was considering purchasing his set-up.

I found the one you mentioned:

It looks like the one in the second picture I posted so apparently it is for an 04 and up Sportster custom. The riser looks pretty cool with the housing. I wonder if the stock speedo will fit in that assembly. Given the height of the riser I wonder if it will fit without major modification to the controls. Superficially it looks like just the clamp with the holder for the speedo could be used and put in the signal lights- if it were only so simple! I might just get one to see if it will work if it does not cost a lot.

I did this on a Sportster with a Fat Bob tank. I used short risers (from a Wide Glide) and the speedo mount from a 2001 Custom. The issue with my install was that I didn't use the risers from the same Custom, which hold the warning lights. I went without lights for a while, then later made my own warning light setup with LED's. The speedo mount can be had for cheap, the riser assembly is expensive.
