Default Dash Removal

On my 05 wide glide I'm wanting to take my dash off and paint it wrinkle black. Are these pretty easy to remove? Does the speedometer pop out from the back side?

I'm not sure if its called a dash or dash panel, the part i'm talking about is the big chrome part that sits on top of the tank that houses the speedometer and neutral indicator light.

Thanks.

There are 2 bolts holding it to the tank. 05 consoles are chrome so yer gonna have a hard time getting paint to stick and last for any length of time. Speedo comes out from the backside of it. The odometer reset button also comes off easily.

Thanks. Do i get to the bolts from the top?

I've been having pretty good luck painting chrome with the HD wrinkle black paint from the dealership so i figure I'd give this a shot.

There should be 2 allen button head on it. Not hex heads.

Been there, done that...on a 99. Super easy to disassemble but I recommend ordering a new plaque/decal for the face rather than try to mask it off or reuse the old one.

I scuffed my chrome with a DA and a bit of hand sanding in the crevices then shot it with VHT wrinkle black. I prefer the VHT over the Harley spray. Proper powder wrinkle coat is better yet...and not that expensive. Definitely see what your local Powder shop charges for prep and coat. It'd be like $50 here but sometimes takes a couple weeks depending on what colors they have in the queue.

This one's from a RK (modified to fit my WG) but same prep and VHT paint.

The ring around the ignition switch is adhesive. Been several years since I looked at one but I seem to recall it being a pain to mask or remove without damage

I got the bolts out of the panel and flipped it over but I can't figure out how the speedometer comes out of the dash panel? And also the portion where the neutral indicator light comes on I can't figure out how it comes out?

There is a plastic ring that slides down around the back of the Speedo and snaps into place inside the console. There are a couple locking tabs that you squeeze and pull to unlock it.

I cant remember exactly how the indicator housing is retained but I don't remember anything being hidden or troublesome. Probably another snap-fit situation.

Thanks for the help I still can't figure out how to get the dash loose from the neutral indicator part.

I'm going to look for an aftermarket dash overlay, I just haven't found one that says it fits mine yet.
