Default Tail Lights

Sanity check on a 2015 Street Bob. From what I can gather of the wiring diagrams and functions of the BCM, the BCM controls the brake and turn signal to the taillights across one wire. obviously a steady signal is sent for brake and a pulsing signal for turn. There is a pass through for the brake that bypasses the BCM and goes the the license plate light harness so a center brake can be added easily. My presumption then is this. If a center brake is added and I swapped to amber lights for the turn signals, the amber lights will come on with the center brake light. If I were to cut the brake line input to the BCM would I trigger a code? would the bike function properly? do I need to ground it out somehow? Thank in advance! I have a 1HD here in Japan and my 2 year inspection is coming due. the turn signals HAVE to be amber and I have some Kuryakyn lights coming in to install as a red/red/amber. This has all been a rush and a pain in the ***. I was hoping to get through the inspection and then have tome to play with it all later but like everything else, everything has to be right now lol.

I would like to know this as well - as I am wanting to turn my dual filament lights into just running/blinkers and have a center tail light brake light. Mine is on a 2010 Wide Glide. I read somewhere that you trace wires back to where they come from (under the seat) and start identifying wires and what they do. Wiring diagrams in the service manual would be helpful as well. I just don't have one of those.

not sure if you have a BCM or not, but if you do the correct answer is to get it programmed at a dealership to remove the brake signal from the BCM. On my bike I have 3 disconnects under the fender. one is for left turn signal, one is for right, and the third is for the license plate lamp. there is a brake line on the license plate disconnect that is a straight through and doesnt have the turn signal come across the same wire like it does on the turn signal connectors. If you do have a BCM then let me know here and I will get a picture when I get back to my Clymers manual tomorrow

If you do not have a BCM I think you would have a converter module and the brake signal should split just prior. I would think you would be able to snip the line going into the converter module and be alright. I was going to respond to your post earlier but I wanted to get to a dealership to confirm the programming this weekend. I havent been to a dealership yet, but I have found posts discussing it now that I had newer information to search. You might be able to refer to this post to get an idea of the converter module: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/elect...ke-lights.html

I used the following simple step to eliminate front running lights on my 2010 FXDC. I cut a small piece of electrical tape and placed it over the bulb contact for the running light circuit. I now have amber turn signal only on the front. You could add your center stop light, change R and L lens to amber and tape over the bulb brake light contact on both the R and L.. This would provide an easily reverseable modification if on board electronics recognize this as an open brake light circuit.
Oops....This isn't going to work for CANBUS

I don't think I have CANBUS. It looks like 2011 and newer has that from my internet researching. But - I like that thought process you have there.

I also have this conversion on my 2010 FXDC rear lighting.https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/e...it/p/69462-06D

What does that conversion do exactly?

I have the 68398-10 module under my seat. I was wondering since I have a 2008 Fat bob rear fender I could take that module out and hook the wiring harness for the fat bob into the connector where this module goes. That way - it will be wired just like the fat bob is.

The kit I linked that I have on my FXDC replaces the amber rear turn lenses with red lenses. The module provides two different voltage outputs to the single element bulb depending on input from running light circuit or brake switch circuit. This isn't going to work on your FXDWG which uses dual filiment bulbs. The link below is images from my 2010 Dyna Electrical manual of the two different tail/turn wiring circuits used on 2010 FXDWG along with pic of tssm and rear harness connector from tssm. Hope this helps you.
