With the temps the new bikes run, often is a good thing...

Most synthetics say you can go 5000 between changes. Sn3 is not a full synthetic, and i agree with everyone else with these hot motors I change @ 3000. I run amsoil in the motorand primary, severe 75-90 in the tranny.

21k miles on the 06 WG. I have changed the oils at recomended intervals. 1k, 5k, 10k etc. I run Mobil 1 15-50 in the engine and the recomended Formula + in the tranny and primary. I run the full synthetic Mobil 1 due to the heat a air cooled engine can and will see. The tranny and primary I am not worried about temps and oil break down.

1. Syn3 is NOT thick enough for the transmission. The factory says it is....but they want you to buy a new transmission in 2 years also! You need heavy duty differential oil. I use Redline Shockproof Heavy differential oil. It's 100% synthetic...pours like a 10/40 and has the protection of like 120/80. Use this in the tranny and change every 7500 miles, and the tranny will probably last forever.

2. Be careful using a synthetic oil in the primary......synthetic can be too slippery for the clutch.

These kinds of questions and more can be answered in the oils thread.

I would do the 2500 oil change, then 5000. After that you can go a little longer.

Do Yerself a favor. Buy Manual, learn to change yer own oil. the primary is a #27 torque. Change it every 2500 miles and use synthetic oil. You have a air cooled engine. Protect yer investment. If you look on this site there is a dude that is a engineer that tells about oil gitting acids in it and how it gets contaminated and why you need to change it. I've heard the same thing for years.
P.S. I run Amsoil in my Redneck Wide Glide too !

I'm using that same Mobil 1 in the motor and primary and it works great. I put Mobil1s synthetic 75/90 gear oil in the tranny. While synth 3 may not be bad oil it is a rip off it's a semi synthetic that actually costs more than Mobil 1 which in my opinion is among the best full synthetics you can buy.Pssst you don't need thier Vtwin 20/50 either the only difference is that the 15/50 is a little thinner at start up which means it will circulate through your engine a little faster when it's cold, hmm, seems like that would be a good thing.
